Stargate Hydrogen signs a letter of intent with BPT to Advance Green Hydrogen production in Slovenia
Tallinn, Estonia - 03/02/2025 — Stargate Hydrogen, known for developing alkaline electrolysers free from precious metals, signed a Letter of intent for cooperation with BPT d.o.o on the GREENFLOW project to advance green hydrogen production in Slovenia. This partnership marks a new step in Stargate Hydrogen’s progress toward another European country. BРТ d.o.o. is the successor of the Cotton Spinning and Weaving Mill Tržič, which was established in 1885. The primary activity is the production of green electricity from four hydroelectric power plants in Slovenia
Marko Virkebau, CEO of Stargate Hydrogen said: “Together, we aim to expand our contribution to Europe’s transition to clean energy.”
The GREENFLOW project is a pilot project that includes the pilot installation of a hydroenergy system in the Mura River to utilise its natural flow for generating clean electricity and enable Hydrogen production in Slovenia, while also allowing for the irrigation of agricultural land.

The project also includes the installation of a hydrogen filling station for local agricultural use and a reservoir designed solely for storing green hydrogen as one of the cleanest renewable sources. The partnership will center on three fundamental areas:
- Resource Planning: Finding the best ways to design systems for hydrogen production, storage, transport, and real-world applications.
- Technology Integration: Working together during the analysis phase to align hydrogen technologies so they can work efficiently with one another.
- Field Testing: Validating and verifying hydrogen technologies in practical operating environments to ensure they work as intended.
Regular consultations will be a key part of this cooperation until the final agreement is signed. This LOI not only aims to increase the Hydrogen production in Slovenia but helps both sides further solidify their ambitions toward a shared goal, decarbonise heavy industries and build a greener future. Goal that also aligns with the goals of IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) and the European Union.

About BPT: BPT was established by Edmund Glanzmann in 1885 as a cotton spinning and weaving mill and built its first hydropower plant in 1902, by the year 1934 there were four hydropower plants built along stream Mošenik. BPT stopped textile production in Tržič in 2004, and since then the company's main activity has been the production of green energy.
